About us
About Our Timing Belt & Chain Specialist in Manchester
Engine timing is all we set out to work on: timing belts, timing chains and belt-in-oil wet belts. We are based at Unit 2, Lancaster Works, Kingsbridge Road, Manchester M9 5SP, and work with drivers across Greater Manchester.
A timing specialist, not a general garage
A general garage covers everything from brakes to bodywork, and a timing job is an occasional event. We took the opposite route: we focus on the systems that keep an engine in time, so we see the same failure patterns repeatedly rather than once a season. That focus is what makes accurate diagnosis and a fixed price possible before anything is taken apart.
What we specialise in
- Timing Belt Replacement — Timing belt replacement for petrol and diesel vehicles, including complete timing kits and water pumps where required.
- Timing Chain Replacement — Diagnosis and replacement of worn, stretched or noisy timing chains, including tensioners and guides.
- Wet Belt Replacement — Specialist wet belt inspection and replacement, including PureTech and EcoBoost belt-in-oil engines.
Timing chain work by manufacturer
Chain layouts are engine-specific, and access varies enormously between makes. We publish what is involved on the engines we work on most:
- BMW Timing Chain Replacement
- Mercedes Timing Chain Replacement
- Audi & Volkswagen Timing Chain Replacement
- Nissan Timing Chain Replacement
- Jaguar & Land Rover Timing Chain Replacement
- Ford Timing Chain Replacement
- Vauxhall & Opel Timing Chain Replacement
- Hyundai & Kia Timing Chain Replacement
- Renault & Dacia Timing Chain Replacement
- Toyota & Lexus Timing Chain Replacement
Wet belt (belt-in-oil) engines
Belt-in-oil engines changed what a "cambelt job" means. The belt runs inside the engine, it usually drives the oil pump, and as it degrades it contaminates the oil system before timing is ever affected. That needs a different approach from a conventional dry belt: sump and oil pick-up inspection, the correct oil specification, and a straight assessment of whether the engine has already run starved of oil. Our PureTech wet belt page covers the engine we see most, and wet belt failure explains what actually happens when one breaks down.
We are also part of a small group of Manchester specialist workshops, so work that sits outside engine timing still has a proper home: engine repairs and rebuilds go to Manchester EcoBoost & Diesel Specialist, and clutch, dual mass flywheel and gearbox work to Manchester Clutch Specialist.
How we work
- Identify the engine first. Same model, different engine, different timing system. We confirm the engine code and build date from your registration before quoting, so belt, chain and wet belt jobs are never guessed at.
- Diagnose before dismantling. Fault codes, live timing data and cold start behaviour come before any strip-down, particularly on chain engines where access is the largest part of the bill.
- Quote a fixed price. You get a price for your car and your engine, not a range, and we tell you what is included before you commit.
- Do the whole job. Tensioners, idlers, guides, seals, water pump where the design calls for it, sump debris and fresh oil on wet belts — not only the visible part.
- Say when it is not worth it. If an engine has already suffered oil starvation or timing damage, we say so before you spend money on a belt or a chain.
- Verify afterwards. Timing is checked against manufacturer specification and the car is road tested before it goes back to you.
Where we work from
All work is carried out at our own workshop in Manchester M9, off Kingsbridge Road, which keeps the car, the tooling and the person doing the diagnosis in the same place. Most customers travel in from across Greater Manchester — Salford, Oldham, Stockport, Trafford, Tameside, Rochdale, Bury and Bolton — because timing work is worth taking to a specialist.
Not sure whether your engine uses a belt, a chain or a wet belt? Send us your registration and we will tell you straight. If you want to read up first, timing belt vs timing chain explains the difference.
