About the workshop

A workshop built around one thing: engine timing

We're a specialist Manchester workshop for timing belts, timing chains and wet belt (belt-in-oil) engines. Concentrating on timing systems is deliberate — it means we see the same faults regularly and know which parts the manufacturers have since revised.

Based in Manchester and working across Greater Manchester, we look after private owners, small fleets and trade. Every job starts with an inspection and a written quote — and if a repair isn't worth doing on your engine, we'll tell you that first.

Why us

Why Choose a Timing Specialist in Manchester?

Proper diagnosis, straight answers and a clear price before any work begins.

Timing work is what we do

We're not a general garage that occasionally takes on a cambelt. Timing belts, timing chains and wet belt (belt-in-oil) engines come through the workshop every week, so we know the common faults and the parts that have since been revised.

We check the oil system too

On a wet belt engine we don't just fit a belt. We inspect the tensioner, seals, sump and — where your engine has one — the oil pump drive belt for debris, then check oil pressure before handing the car back.

Honest advice, before you spend

If your engine already shows low oil pressure or a lot of debris in the sump, we explain what that could mean for the repair before you commit — not halfway through the job.

A clear price up front

You get an itemised written quote after the inspection and before any further work. No mid-job phone calls and no "while we were in there" extras.

Correct parts for your engine

We fit the correct latest-specification timing components for your engine — belt or chain kits and tensioners, plus oil pump drives where the engine uses one — rather than the cheapest kit available.

You see what we see

Photos of the belt or chain condition, anything found in the sump and the oil pressure readings, so you can see what was wrong and what we replaced.

Wet Belt Failure

Wet Belt Low Oil Pressure

Oil pressure warnings on a wet belt engine are urgent. Here's why, and what we check first.

Wet Belt Low Oil Pressure

Oil Pickup Blockage

Shed belt material collects in the sump and blocks the oil pick-up strainer, starving the engine.

How it works

What happens when you bring your car in

  1. 01

    Send your registration

Tell us the vehicle, mileage and any symptoms. We'll confirm which timing system your engine uses — belt, chain or wet belt — and what applies to it.

  2. 02

    Inspection & written quote

We check belt or chain condition, oil condition and measured oil pressure, then give you a clear price before anything else is taken apart.

  3. 03

    The replacement work

We fit the correct latest-specification timing components for your engine, following the manufacturer's fitting procedures.

  4. 04

    Oil system and road test

Where a wet belt engine needs it, the sump and oil pick-up are cleaned, fresh oil and filter fitted, oil pressure checked and the car road tested.

Worried your wet belt is deteriorating?

An oil pressure warning, a rattle on start-up, a flickering oil light, rough running or dark sludge on the dipstick can all be signs of a deteriorating wet belt, although other faults can cause similar symptoms. Stop driving the car and call 07480 657874 so it can be inspected promptly — continued running risks turning a belt job into a much bigger repair.

Timing belt, timing chain and wet belt questions

Does my timing belt need replacing?

Timing belts are replaced by age and mileage, and the interval varies between engines. Send us your registration and we will confirm the manufacturer's interval for your vehicle, tell you whether it is due, and quote the work before you commit to anything.

Is my timing chain causing the rattling noise?

A rattle on start-up can come from a worn timing chain, tensioner or guide, but other components can make similar noises. We listen to the engine, read live timing data and check for stored fault codes so you get a diagnosis rather than a guess.

What is a wet belt?

A wet belt, also known as a belt-in-oil timing belt, is a timing belt designed to operate inside the engine in contact with engine oil. Depending on the engine design, additional belt-driven components may also be used. As the belt deteriorates, material can contaminate the lubrication system, making correct oil specification, inspection and engine-specific replacement procedures important.

Which cars have wet belt engines?

Most commonly the 1.2 PureTech turbo used by Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall and Opel, plus some 1.5 BlueHDi diesels and the Ford 1.0 EcoBoost. Send us your registration and we will confirm.

Why do wet belts need a specialist?

Because the oil system can be affected as well as the timing. A thorough job means inspecting the sump and oil pick-up for shed belt material, fitting the current revised parts, and checking oil pressure afterwards.

How much will the repair cost?

It depends on your engine and on how much work the oil system needs. We inspect the vehicle first and give you a clear written quote, so you know the cost before anything is dismantled further.

Can you diagnose the problem before replacing parts?

Yes — that is how we prefer to work. We check belt or chain condition, oil condition and measured oil pressure, then explain what your vehicle actually needs. Sometimes that means telling you a repair is not worth doing.

Do you work on my make and model?

We work on petrol and diesel cars and small vans from most manufacturers, including Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall, Opel and Ford. Send us your registration and we will confirm which timing system your engine uses.

What does an oil pressure warning mean?

On a wet belt engine, an oil pressure warning can be caused by belt debris restricting oil flow. The vehicle should be inspected promptly to identify the cause and help prevent further engine damage.

How quickly can I get a quote or book in?

Send your registration and symptoms by phone, WhatsApp or the quote form and we will come back to you with the next available inspection slot and what the job involves.
